I will take you away

I will take you away
just lose yourself
in the laughter
I will take you away
just take my hand
and we’ll fly
I will take you away
far into your dreams
with a smile
I will take you away
just say the word
and we’ll be gone

It’s officially Summer Break for the kiddies out this way. JOYOUS! I am ready for the days of less phone calls and such. Oh, and I’m ready for some days off. Yes indeed. 😉

At the Bankhead Theater

JANE MONHEIT – The show on Wednesday night was one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. First off, we had front row seats. FRONT ROW. It was pretty awesome. Second, the Bankhead Theater is LOVELY with its little 507 seat capacity. Third, Jane Monheit is simply AMAZING…

The setting was quite intimate, more so because we were in the front row. She and her band (piano, bass, drums) were set a bit back because of the lights but it didn’t stop her voice from reaching all of us. Of course, from our vantage we could hear everything from the stage.

After the show, I marveled at how much she sounds like her albums but as I’m listening to her latest, The Heart of the Matter, I have to say that she sounds BETTER live. I have been touched by live music– the musicians playing their instruments and having a total visceral reaction– but NEVER by a vocalist until now. Saying she’s amazing just isn’t enough but it’s the best I can do.

Jane Monheit has great range but she doesn’t show it off unnecessarily. It’s always about how the music is presented, I felt, and it was done so well. I have always been a fan of hers and this show just made me love her even more. If you ever hear any of her recordings, know that what you hear is definitely her. She makes it look so effortless too.

She was funny too. Lots of sass. It must be that New York thing. 😉 But seriously, she was great between songs. I loved the way she interacted with us and with her bandmates. And I love jazzy vocal tunes. They are my first adult love of music.

So if you have a chance to see Jane Monheit, take it. She’s a beautiful singer with a dash of sass and always pure beauty in her music…
