It’s still summer break for the kids out this way but I went back to work after more than a week off. Even though I had a lot of emails and voicemails to go through, it wasn’t so bad. I have air conditioning at work and not many interruptions when it’s summer break…
TV
The Punisher (Netflix) – Yes, I know, totally late on watching this show. We’re almost finished with it. Makes me a little sad that it only had two seasons. I like the show very much and maybe yes, I wanted to watch it because of Ben Barnes. His Billy Russo is a fascinating character and Ben plays him rather well. I like well rounded villains…
Loki (Disney+) – Just one more episode of this fantastic show. I love the deep dive into the character of Loki. I’ve been duly impressed by all the MCU TV shows but just don’t ask me which one I liked the best. I find myself watching recap shows after every episode and I I seriously enjoy even that part of it. I’ve not actually ever read any Marvel comic books (I know, right?) so I like knowing what Easter eggs might be in each episode. Even better, I love that I can enjoy the episodes without knowing anything from the comic books…
2 Broke Girls (purchased) – When this show was airing, I didn’t think I’d ever want to watch it. Even when one of my favorites, Ed Quinn, was on it, I just couldn’t bring myself to watch. (Sorry Ed!) While we were away last week, we left the tv on while falling asleep and 2 Broke Girls was one of the shows that played a slew of episodes in a row. The hubby liked it enough for us to purchase it (digitally) when we got home. It’s a funny show, a broad sort of comedy that is oftentimes quite adult. I’m a little surprised, as we’re watching, that it aired on network television. I enjoy the two leads, which isn’t so much a surprise in regards to Kat Dennings (she rocks) though it did take an episode or two to appreciate Beth Behrs.
Black Widow (in theatres/Disney+ Premier Access) – My first movie in the movie theatre since the Valentine’s Day showing of Sonic the Hedgehog in 2020! I opted for the Dolby Cinema auditorium and thought I’d have no one next to me but alas, after the trailers, my next seat neighbor arrived. I tried not to be annoyed… I enjoyed the movie! It’s a great standalone but it DEFINITELY helps to have seen the Avengers movies, as well as Captain America: Civil War (which could have seriously just been an Avengers movie except it was missing two (?) Avengers). Oh, and since they mentioned the Winter Soldier program, watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier would probably help too. Regardless, Black Widow was a great installment in the MCU and a fitting chapter to tell of Natasha Romanoff’s life. If you’re an MCU fan/watcher, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you to check out this film… I’ve always liked Scarlett Johansson as Natasha but I definitely enjoyed Florence Pugh as Yelena. She was pretty cool… I’ve seen the movie twice already because we ponied up for Premier Access. Now I can watch it multiple times at home! Yah!
The Tomorrow War (Amazon Prime Video) – I like this movie more than I thought I would. I’m sort of a sucker for time travel stories and I’m always intrigued by what rules they might use for the time traveling. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn’t. In this movie, it mostly made sense. It was action filled but also a bit heart wrenching. I love movies that can get the adrenaline rushing then squeeze your heart a bit.
The last couple of days have been triple digit days, which makes me utterly grateful for air conditioning. I did sit outside yesterday in the late morning while we were at The Streets of Brentwood (hubby was getting a hair cut). I listened to an audio book (The Picture of Dorian Gray, as read by Ben Barnes) and watched the fountain while sitting in the shade. We headed to Lowes afterwards and ended up buying a new grill! (We got rid of our previous one, which was never used and too big for just the two of us.)
Maybe this could be the start of us eating in more? We shall see! I’m probably not going to be the one to cook with it most of the time thought I’m sure I should give it a go one of these days.
Oh, and can’t forget the earthquake the other day. I was sitting at my desk at work and felt swaying. I thought I was having a vertigo spell or something then realized, no, it was an earthquake! It was a swaying sort of earthquake and it lasted a rather long time. We don’t usually feel earthquakes as often out here in East Contra Costa County so I was a bit startled by all the swaying…
