TWITL – week twenty-three – breezy warm days

It’s summer break now for the kids out this way! It was a bit busy this week of finals, especially the last couple days of school but we got through it. Now it’s almost time to just settle in with a different routine for the weeks of break.

MOVIES

The Northman – This was a stunner of a movie, beautifully shot and starkly poetic in its dialogue. I was a bit surprised by the mysticism but I also really liked it. Definitely enjoyed this film from start to finish and I would recommend it…

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent – This Nicolas Cage/Pedro Pascal movie was funny with a side of silly and beautifully shot. It made me giggle in parts and the action sequences were fun. Pedro Pascal was freakin’ ADORABLE in the movie and Nicolas Cage was just everything. It was a great watch and I would definitely recommend it…

Morbius – When they talk about comic book movie fatigue, they could point to this one. I should have liked this movie but there was a joylessness about it even though it had all the elements necessary. Adria Arjona is always a treat to watch, even in this movie. Matt Smith was probably the brightest spot, even though they never really showed how his character turned out the way he did. Jared Leto was quite easy on the eyes but his character just seemed devoid of soul. Obviously this is a must watch if you watch other comic book movies…

RRR – OH MY GOODNESS. This movie (you can find it on Netflix) is just EVERYTHING. We clicked play just to see if it was dubbed in English (it was not) and ended up watching all three hours or so of it. It was gloriously over the top, beautifully shot, and just fun. We watched this movie right after Morbius and what a palette cleanser it was after the dredge. RRR was filled with purpose and beauty, joy and heartbreak, friendship and betrayal, despair and justice. Some of it felt utterly ridiculous but it fed into the utter enjoyment of the movie. There are song and dance moments. Glorious. There are daring rescues. There are brutal action sequences. And lo, the (CGI) animals! I don’t think I can recommend this movie enough. Go watch it. Let yourself be taken away by it all…

Bags Bites Brews

We had a weekend of much sunshine. Saturday was our little friend’s birthday party and then Sunday was the Bags Bites Brews Cornhole tournament downtown. Fun times! It was very warm but thank goodness for the breeze and the clouds that rolled by.

These two went 3-1 and were knocked out in the elimination round…

It was good times even though this team was knocked out in the elimination round, going 3-1. Better than last year! Next year, they’ll do better, right?
