SAM HUNT!!!
So if you know me, you know that Sam Hunt has been one of my favorites for years now. I can still remember that moment on February 13, 2015 when I “discovered” him. He was playing on the radio and I Shazam’d the song and thought, “Hmm, who is this Sam Hunt?” And so began my journey back into country music listening (mostly for the better). If not for Sam, I don’t know if I would have met Tyler Rich and Jordan Davis and Jacob Davis and all the friends I’ve made along the way. He’ll never know but I am utterly grateful for him in so many ways.
During the concert, Sam talked about how his life was coming full circle and it made me smile because the first time I saw Sam live was at the Shoreline Ampitheatre. We all but twenty seconds of his set, which was a huge bummer. He did sing with Lady Antebellum (as they were know by back then) during one of their songs, so I did hear him sing a bit more. And even though I would eventually see him again in concert and eventually the headliner (last year in Sparks, NV), this show at Shoreline felt like the righting of a wrong of sorts. And a good show it was!
I made sure to buy aisle seats and I picked just the right spot because OMG, the small stage was in the section next to us and Sam’s path would bring him right to us before he turned to go that small stage! He walked through the audience during “House Party” but that was just a little tease, I think. It wasn’t until about the middle of the show that he made his way through again and to that small stage to sing a couple of songs. He passed by me twice and it was pretty cool.
Opening for Sam were Lily Rose and Brett Young. Lily played a short set of about thirty minutes and her bit seemed to go in a flash. She was very good, of course, and she also sang during Sam’s set while he was making his way back to the main stage (“Wishful Drinking”). Brett played a longer set and he was very good too. I actually marveled at how many songs of his that I knew. He’s been around for a long time so why wouldn’t I know his songs? It was so cute when he brought his wife out.
And then there was Sam Hunt and his amazing band. What can I say? I knew most of the words to all his songs and I loved how close he got to us. I really loved that we figured out this path was going to make its way past us. Sam looked great, sounded great, and was fantastic. I took a snippet of all the songs, so here’s the playlist:
- Raised on It
- House Party
- Kinfolks
- 23
- Water Under the Bridge
- Outskirts
- Start Nowhere
- Take Me Home, Country Road
- Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s
- Hard to Forget
- Make You Miss Me (walking to the small stage)
- (small stage)
- Take Your Time
- Cop Car
- Wishful Drinking (with Lily Rose)
- (back to the main stage)
- Leave the Night On
- We are Tonight
- Don’t Start Now (Tyrone Carreker singing)
- Let it Down
- Walmart
- Break Up in a Small Town
- Ex to See
- Body Like a Back Road (finale)
So many songs! It was great to hear a fair mix of his older songs with his newer songs.
We stayed at Shashi Hotel in Mountain View, which is walking distance of the Shoreline Ampitheatre. Fancy place, very clean and comfortable. I really liked it. I also really liked that we could walk to the concert and walk back without dealing with traffic. It was a great to be so close.
A nice little weekend getaway it was…
THE SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP5
My Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 arrived on Monday! It is freakin’ cool. It was definitely a good decision to trade the Flip4 for it. I have been having a great time with it. I ordered a case for it and it thankfully arrived just before we left for the concert on Saturday.
Quick take – The phone is pretty cool. The cover screen is especially very functional and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. I learned that I can make videos as animations as the cover screen graphic. So neat! For the concert, I used it almost exclusively for Lily Rose and Brett Young. I didn’t use it for Sam because I wasn’t sure about the quality of the video camera.
I like the phone out of the case for the most part but having the case during the concert made me feel a bit more secure holding it, especially since the case has a ring. I was a little paranoid about the battery for the concert, even though I knew I was going to use the iPhone as well. I shouldn’t have worried too much about it. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the phone after a few weeks with it…
It was a nice getting away for the weekend, even though it was only one night. The weather was cooler in Mountain View and I actually wore my new Sam Hunt sweatshirt during the concert. We were home just after noon and mostly relaxed our Sunday away.
Here’s to a good week!
