As I write, it’s the 11th of July aka opening weekend for Superman. And yes, of course, I saw it! I took the day off from work, woke up at my usual weekday time, dressed in my new Superman t-shirt under my overalls, then headed out to the local AMC for the 0930 showing in IMAX. I sat in my usual spot (top row, aisle) and had only a bottle of water for my drink. I resisted the concessions stand because I knew I’d talk myself into one of the collectibles and do I really need more stuff? I hope I don’t regret not getting at least one collectible.
So how was the movie, you wonder? Well, let me tell you while I’m listening to the Superman soundtrack…
Superman – I LOVED IT. When the movie started with those familiar notes, I just felt something in my heart. Text opened the film, offering facts that we’d need to know to start. Then we were dropped into the action. You’re not going to get any spoilers from me so I’ll just say that I cannot wait to see it again. This movie reminded me that I am a Superman fan, especially if he’s well played. David Corenswet looks the part and gives us an earnest version of the superhero. Rachel Brosnahan is going to end up being my favorite movie Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is definitely my favorite movie Lex Luthor. The rest of the cast were fantastic and I hope we get to see more of them in future projects. This movie is such a great start and I hope that it does well. If you’re a Superman fan, this is definitely a movie you can’t miss.
I’m not going going to compare this iteration of Superman to Henry Cavill’s version. I will say that it is possible to love his take and David Corenswet’s. They both embody the character in their own way. Superman is always a beacon of hope. He always looks for the best in all of us and he’s willing to put himself out there for what’s right. He makes his mistakes but his intentions are pure. This is something that I feel is true with Man of Steel and with Superman. Even though I was disappointed that Henry didn’t get the chance to show us the joy of Superman, I trusted James Gunn to give us a worthy version of the superhero and he did. He wrote and directed a fantastic movie and he chose an actor who was able to bring that vision to life. I know that I’m going to love Superman as much as I love Man of Steel.
Oh, and come on with the squirrel! 😀
TV
Murderbot – This show is getting a second season. SWEET GOODNESS! I’m so happy we get more of SecUnit aka Murderbot. What will the second season hold? The season one ender seemed like a conclusion of sorts with most of the loose ends tied up, as far as the clients are concerned. So what next? Maybe I should read the books.
The Sandman – The first half of season two dropped. We’ve already watched all of the episodes and they were good! It sucks that the show isn’t getting much attention now because of its creator. I prefer to focus on all the other people who worked on the production and they all did a fantastic job. I’m glad we don’t have to wait too long for the last half of the season.
Pokerface – We started watching the season two episodes. I LOVE this show. Natasha Lyonne is so good on this. The stories are smart and the guest stars are always a treat to watch. I love mystery shows and this one is definitely at the top of my list.
Watson – All episodes of this one are available to stream so we started watching it. It’s good! I like the whole “case of the week” aspect of it. It’s a different kind of mystery show. I might be a sucker for Holmes-esque shows. Is Holmes really gone? How does Moriarty know so much about Dr. Derian? We’ve watched about 5 or 6 episodes, so maybe my questions will be answered in future episodes. ETA: We finished the first season and most of the big plotlines were resolved. I liked it and would definitely recommend. 🙂
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked happened this week and amongst the new devices announced was the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Before the end of the day of the announcement, my next phone was pre-ordered. Super sweet! I’ve been watching different videos of unboxings and quick rundowns on the phone. Promising! Now, I need to find a case.
I never did do a little write up on my Galaxy Z Flip 5. Suffice to say it’s been a super fun phone and I’m glad to have had it. The bubbling of the screen protector is a very recent development. Am I lucky it didn’t happen sooner? I do find it interesting that it started happening when leaks of the new Flip started circulating. I certainly haven’t been using it differently.
STOCKTON CON SUMMER 2025
This weekend is Stockton Con Summer! We went there yesterday and I had a couple of objectives — find the Xena Pop! Funko and something Superman. I failed! No Xena (or Gabrielle, for that matter) and it’s probably too early for any movie Superman paraphernalia. Alas!
It was fun walking through the vendor floor and checking out all the booths. We checked out the main floor then went upstairs to the celebrity tables. Alas, Lou Diamond Phillips wasn’t at his table otherwise I’d probably be showing of a picture of us because I would have most definitely taken a picture or two with him. 😉 Our last walk-thru was the artists alley and I ended up getting stuff at the Pinoy Shot Art table. We chatted with the artist and I bought a decal and a bunch of charms. THEY ARE SO CUTE! Afterwards we stopped at a booth of comic books and walked away with a bunch reading material. The last thing I bought was a $5 Pop! Funko of Qimir, from The Acolyte. So basically my haul was very Pinoy supporting, eh?
And now it’s Sunday. The weekends, even the long ones, aren’t quite long enough, if you ask me.
- For Amazon Prime Days, we got all the seasons of Game of Thrones on blu-ray. We’re starting from the beginning and it looks so good on disc. The colors are vibrant though stark at times. It’s been so long since we’ve watched the show and it feels almost new. I remember a lot but it’s still fun to watch again.
- I want to see Superman again already.
- I’m prepping for my new phone by making sure my current phone’s pictures are copied to an external drive. It’s a bit much how many photos I have on my phones. I intend on starting fresh with my new phone.
- Riley Green released an EP of acoustic songs and OF COURSE I had to buy it. There’s one new song on it. I wish there were more. It’s a good EP though and a definite recommend if you like his music. 😉
