I should say BACK TO MADNESS but truth be told, I cannot remember a more chaotic beginning to a school year. I hope it didn’t seem that way to students but lo, our office was BUSY. I have so many voicemails waiting to be played but I doubt I will call back even half of them. Apologies to those folks!
TV
Game of Thrones – Well, we finished our re-watch. The show definitely still holds up in every way with its beauty and imperfections. I still say that the last season could have stretched to two seasons. Maybe I would have believed Daenerys and Jon Snow’s relationship with more time but it still rings hollow even with the re-watch. And that is not a knock on any of the actors– they were all fantastic. It’s more a knock on the writing, I suppose. But they did what they could with what they all had, eh? The show looks amazing on blu-ray. The dark battle in that last season was still dark but less so than when we first watched it via streaming. If you get the chance to watch the show again, do it!
As much as I consume digital media, physical media is better quality, hands down. It’s evident in our re-watch of this show. This makes me want to watch more blu-rays. Also, this is why I buy the movies I like very much as 4k discs.
Saturday was NovaCon X in City Park. It was pretty cool having nerd stuff going on in our town. Loved seeing the cosplayers and the various booths. It was a bit warm and I don’t know how the very dressed up attendants were holding up in the heat. I was in shorts and a t-shirt and it was a sweaty time for me.
I only bought the three action figures pictured above: Wonder Woman, Nomad Steve, and Thor. Three for $5! I couldn’t resist. And I don’t have to feel guilty about taking them out of their boxes because no boxes! Ha!
Lisa Laureta, an old friend from my Festival Cinemas days, died a couple of weeks ago. News of her passing just made me stop and remember our active days of friendship. We worked together at Festival but were also in college at the same time. She was a nursing student and it looks like she ended up working in social services. I’m not sure when we lost touch. Life has that way of pulling you in different directions. We reconnected via FB but it was one of those light connections, I think. I can’t even remember the last time we saw each other in person.
I can still remember her voice. I remember her kindness and her laughter. I remember hanging out with her and our other friends– Lake Tahoe, picnics, dinners, parties, weddings. I remember working with her– making popcorn, selling concessions, cleaning out the auditoriums. I am sad that she’s no longer a light in this world.
Journey well into the next, my friend. I will always think of you with a smile.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 7
Thoughts after over a week of use:
- The phone is PRETTY. The cover screen, the inner screen, the phone itself is just so PRETTY.
- Battery life is pretty good so far. The Z Flip 7 is not my main phone so it doesn’t get all the same notifications as my iPhone does.
- The camera is quite decent. I made it my primary on Saturday and took most of my pictures of the day with it. They turned out rather nicely.
- Wireless charging is a bit hit or miss. I have a three in one thing with a magsafe (for the iPhone), a pad (for AirPods), and the watch. I used the pad bit for my previous Flip and it was usually fine. Twice with this one, however, the phone doesn’t charge and it gets hot.
I’m enjoying the phone so far. I need to use it more and I want to get used to using it as my “weekend” phone but we’ll see. I think I’ve had it in my hand more than my iPhone as I play around with it because now whenever I handle my iPhone, I want to fold it. Hmmm.
