As I write, it’s Monday and the last day of my 4 day weekend. I might be a little sad about that except we’re in the middle of Fall Break and I’m only work three days this week and will end break with a 3 day weekend. Huzzah!
ETA: Well, now it’s Sunday and tomorrow marks the beginning of quarter 2. I will press publish before the end of today. Probably. π
The first week of Fall Break went by well enough. I got through some of the stacks on my desk (but I still have more) and it was rather quiet. I wasn’t alone in my building, which was nice.
MUSIC
The announcement of Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime show as led me to check out his music. It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to Latin music and probably even longer since I’ve listened to anything new. So I’m checking out the Apple Music essentials and so far, I’m digging his music. Nice beats. And since I don’t understand as much Spanish as I should, I have the translations turned on when I’m listening. So I’m sort of watching the music too. I’m noticing that some of the lyrics are extra spicy and Bad Bunny pronounces his Spanish different from how I’ve learned it.
TV
We bought Criminal Minds and have been watching at least one episode a day (but usually more). I’ve already seen Chris Conrad’s appearance as well as Wil Wheaton’s. The show definitely still holds up though you can tell it’s dated by the personal technology (phones and computers). Still, it’s been a good watch. There is just something about procedural tv that hits the spot. π
BOOKS
I am currently reading 107 Days by Kamala Harris. It’s been interesting so far. I don’t usually read non-fiction and political books are not usually on my reading list but this one just feels like a must read. I’ve been reading during my lunch breaks. I might need to sit down and just read during longer chunks of time.
I only wanted to do one thing during my 4 day weekend — get my shots for the flu and COVID-19. Mission accomplished! We went on Friday afternoon. There was a line at Kaiser but they moved us along at a decent pace. It was good to see all the folks getting their shots. π
We headed downtown afterwards for some drinks and snacks. I had a Guinness at one place then two Jameson and gingers at the other. I think the combination of the drinks and taking some acetaminophen before bed kept any ill effects of the shots at bay. So other than a sore upper arm, I’m fine!
It was fun sitting at Crown and Crow for some of the people watching. The bartender was a lovely young woman who kept a good eye on us. The other patrons were having lively conversations and it was interesting just listening to all of them. One of them made a big deal about how they’re known online and lo, I just looked them up and yeah, not surprised why what I saw posted. Gotta love the pretend Christians out there. Y’all never disappoint!
It’s Sunday now! I worked my three days of work and was the only one in my building the whole time (except for a couple of visits by folks from the other building). Glorious! I ate my lunch in our copy/break room with the door closed and the window open because I had Filipino food that was quite fragrant. π Good times, good times.
The past week marked the outgoing Fiscal Coordinator’s last days with our district. She’s going on to a new position with a different district and it’s such a great opportunity for her. I’m happy for her but sad for us! Alas! We’ve worked together since 2009! I wish her the very best and I know she’s going to rock at her next gig. And it’s not like she’s far away, so I’ll probably still see her now and again. I’m going to miss her though.
We’ve had so many changes at work and it’s inevitable, of course. It just feels like we’ve had a lot of change these recent days and there’s only so much adjusting that can be done before it’s just a bit too much.
Yesterday (Saturday) was Oktoberfest here! The weather was PERFECT. The crowd felt less frenetic and just chilling. It was really very lovely. I had my corn in a cup (well, container) and a hard seltzer after a mimosa at the wine bar.
The best part of Oktoberfest is the Weiner Dog Costume Parade. Dachshunds!!!
It was great seeing so many people out and about. Sometimes I joke and wonder where all the Filipinos are, considering they have the Simbang Gabi at the local Catholic church, but I did see a fair amount of Filipinos, as well as other Asian folks. It was a nicely diverse crowd for Oktoberfest. π
MOVIES
KPop Demon Hunters [Netflix] – Finally watched this movie today and YES, loved it. Loved the music, loved the animation, loved the story. It was a joyful watch and I feel like I’m going to end up getting the soundtrack. Maybe I should give it a listen before plunking down the money? Maybe.
The random stuff:
- New AirPods Pro 3 for me! I got them personalized as well because why not? I decided on my Memoji. And sure, they’re not cheap but lo, the ANC is much improved. And the transparency mode feels more natural. Nice!
- New Kindle Paperwhite for me! I went with the Raspberry variant because the Jade one did not have an estimated delivery date. What the heck! The Kindle was on sale, which was why I clicked on “buy.” I have an iPad Mini but as cool as it is, it’s a bit tiring to hold while reading.
- Ben Barnes released a holiday tune and of course I had to buy it. I have no self control. But I love holiday tunes and why not listen to Ben sing a song called “Wrapped Up in You.” π
- Ugh, the Niners are about to lose this game. π (And they lost. Grrr!)
- Threads has actually been fun this week between the cruise and the Sherlocked. IYKYK
- Tell me why I’ve started a vignette when I have at least two other stories I haven’t finished? I need to focus!
Here’s to a good week. When is our next holiday? Oh, Happy Thanksgiving (tomorrow) to our Canadian neighbors! π
