It’s Saturday afternoon and I’ve already had a Jameson and ginger to go with my corn in a cup. Oh, and it’s a long weekend (again!) and we have no solid plans. Nice!
TV/MOVIES
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy – I really do adore this show. The latest episode brought some dark drama and was really well done. I have a soft spot for Vulcans (of course!) and Betazoids (Deanna Troi has always been one of my favorite characters), so having B’Avi do what he did and Tarima do what she did hit me in all kinds of ways.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Now we know who Egg is! Well, if you read the stories or spoilers, you already knew. (I sort of already knew.) I loved the interaction between Dunk and Egg. Egg was so vulnerable and childlike even though he was dressed in his non-squire gear. He was so fancy! Dunk is so idealistic, believing in the tenets of being a knight yet even young Egg knows more of the world. It’s such an interesting dichotomy. The show is a good watch. And last night’s episode (it’s Monday morning now) was another good one. I am really digging this show in so many different ways.
Red Sonja – R was scrolling through Kanopy and happened upon this MJ Bassett movie. It’s not streaming anywhere else from what we could see so the only way to watch it “free” is through your library card’s access to Kanopy. (And hey, get your library card so you can access all kinds of shows and movies along with books.) Would I recommend this movie? My thoughts on it first… The movie was well done and beautiful. The actions sequences were properly violent and gritty. And because this is MJ, there were explosions! MG loves those explosions. MG is always obviously loyal to former co-workers/friends because there were a few Strike Back alumni in the mix (Rhona Mitra, Michael Bisping, and Philip Winchester). I didn’t mind the movie much but I think the villain’s motivations could have been fleshed out a bit more? He just felt off to me. When Sonja finally got her fighting skills up to par, I was most definitely reminded of Xena. Kickass women with swords are always going to remind me of Xena. Would I recommend this movie? Sure, if you want a good looking action flick with hints of Gladiator, Xena, and maybe Spartacus, this might be the one for you. I say go in without too many expectations and you might enjoy it. If you happen to roll your eyes a couple of times, it’s a small price to pay for the earnest campiness. 😉
After Saturday’s outing to the farmers market, we were homebound for the rest of the weekend. We watched some of the Olympics, our show, and movies. I should really start packing because I know that I will regret letting these spare hours pass without doing something constructive. Perhaps this is why I’m doing laundry right now as I type out this post.
At this moment, I don’t have the television on. It’s quiet but for the rain falling relentlessly outside and the washer going through its process down the hall and my fingers typing on this keyboard. I have a Ben Barnes song playing lines here in there in my head and I don’t really know why but I don’t mind. It’s like my mind is taking a break from Riley Green for just a bit. I hear water. Is it the washer or the rain outside? The living room is gloomy and I look up at the window above the sliding door and I can see the rain falling. I’m glad I’m not outside. It’s a little chilly in here but I’m too lazy to get up and get my A’s blanket to cover me. I’ll be all right in my t-shirt and sweats. The washer is on its watery bit of the cycle. Oh, I should do my Duolingo lesson. I already did my Babbel one earlier this morning. I like this kind of quiet. I like that I’m focusing on this paragraph of rambling to capture a hint of this moment. I just glanced over at the framed portrait of my parents on their wedding day. Where will it hang in the next place? Oh, and the crucifix too. I should really pack…
There is something beautiful about this. Alas, it didn’t survive the drive. I was disappointed but not surprised. The colors are pretty though, eh?
If I’m the first to arrive at the office (and I am usually the first), on a whim I sometimes take selfies with my Z Flip 7. I set up the phone somewhere, with the cover screen on so I can see myself, and I take the shot using the palm method. It’s silly but it’s fun.
The sun has been coming up earlier and earlier these days. Well, when it’s not raining. The time change will be upon us much too soon so I try to enjoy this sweater weather. I like my hoodies and coats and wish I could wear them more often than not. Ah well.
The rain still falls as I write. I just vacuumed a bit after cleaning out the clumps of hair on the vacuum brush. YIKES! For our next place, I’d like to eventually get a robot vacuum/mop because it’ll keep things clean more often than I will. Ha!
Even more random thoughts…
- I just noticed a crack on my iPhone’s screen protector. Bullocks! I know, easy fix but I’m not sure I know where my spare screen protector is. Grrr.
- Just when I think I’ve retired Henry Cavill as an active book boyfriend, bts shots from Highlander come out and suddenly Henry is back in the rotation. Honestly, was he ever really off the rotation?
- We’re getting closer to our big news. A fair amount of people already know but I haven’t publicized it yet because it’s not real until it’s real. (Hopefully in two weeks, fingers crossed!)
- I love watching re-caps of the episodes of shows I watch. I just watched one for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Love seeing what I might have missed, plus getting a bit more context on the action.
- We’re doing a re-watch of the Harry Potter movies. We’re on the second one at the moment.
- I ordered the tote above and it arrived this weekend. SO CUTE! You can check out it and much more at PinoyShotArt.
- Sometimes when I’m on Threads too long, I start blocking people who are jerks to the people I follow. I just wish the algorithm would stop showing me rage bait posts. Oh, and I wish that the people I follow would stop responding to the rage bait posts.
It was nice having a lowkey weekend. We said goodbye to our recliner couch the other day so now I’m sitting in our recliner armchair. I know I need to start packing but I am better at procrastinating. Maybe after I post this, I’ll work on one of my stories. 😉
