It’s my birthday weekend! I made it a long one because there’s always a movie I want to watch the first Friday in May and this year it was Thunderbolts*. So let’s start with some movies!
MOVIES
Thunderbolts* – I saw the first IMAX showing on Friday. Definitely worth taking the day off. I very much enjoyed it. Florence Pugh was mesmerizing and such a joy to watch. Her Yelena is just so great to watch. Lewis Pullman was fantastic. And lo, Sebastian Stan on the motorcycle was freakin’ sizzling. I want to see the movie again and I just might.
Sinners – I’ve been wanting to see this movie since it was released and finally, I got to see it on my actual birthday. SUCH A GREAT MOVIE. Michael B. Jordan was fantastic, as was the rest of the cast. It’s always nice seeing Jack O’Connell. Miles Caton was just lovely. Wunmi Mosaku is always a treat to watch. The music was great and soul seeping. I loved it!
TV
Tokyo Vampire Hotel – We had actually watched two episodes of this wild tv show awhile back but we re-watched it then finished the series in two days. This show was freakin’ wild and weird and definitely not a recommendation. It’s stylish and gory, violent and colorful, ridiculous and silly. I don’t mind vampires but this one was just confused and confusing and goofy. Plot threads just die without resolution and characters are introduced late in the series.
MobLand – I started watching for Tom Hardy but honestly, the whole cast is great. And the show has gotten me hooked for sure. Helen Mirren’s Maeve is just wild and crazy and I want someone to slap her. She’s that good.
The Last of Us – For the latest episode, I’m just going to say that Bella Ramsey playing and singing “Take on Me” was a lovely part of the episode. I liked the quite moment and it almost made me cry. So sweet.
Andor – I’m digging the three episode drops every week. The show is so good and knowing what it’s leading to just makes it even more pressing. Who will survive? Who won’t?
My sister had a work meeting in the Bay Area this week and was in for less than 24 hours. We gathered at the childhood home for a visit, which was a great way to break up the week. I wonder when the last time I saw my family like this on Tuesday was. Hmm. I was able to take the group picture with my little tripod and the camera app on my watch. Neat stuff!
It’s been a lovely birthday weekend. Loved all the messages on my FB. 🙂
Now it’s time for bed!
