summer heat

I am so thankful for air conditioning, here at home and also at work and even in my car. I would otherwise be so miserable during these triple digit days. I’m all about sweater weather and the occasional days of heat. Anything more than two days of 90s and above just makes me want to hide. So I don’t mind that we spent the weekend at home, in blissful air conditioning.

WORK THINGS

Week two of the 2025-26 school year was better than week one but it sometimes didn’t feel like it during the aggravating moments, like:

  • Coming to work to find ants roaming around the window sill and venturing on to my desk. Oi!
  • The endless voicemails that I haven’t gotten a chance to check out.
  • Thursday morning – A parent called about her student’s enrollment and did not like my answer that 1) the registrar is likely behind in importing the enrollment, 2) the enrollment would likely be overflowed to a different high school. The last bit had her go off on me– “My student will NOT being going to that school!”– and the like. They thankfully rang off and after a deep breath, I shrugged it off.
  • Friday morning – A parent walked into my office to talk about her student’s enrollment. As we spoke, I realized that this was the same parent who called the day before. I reiterated my previous talking points and near the end of our conversation, this person says to me, “You’re just the secretary. Who can I talk to about this?” I stood up so that I could go tell my supervisor, telling this parent, “I’m just telling you what they’re going to tell you. But yes, let me check on if she’s here.” When I told my supervisor what this parent said to me, she said, “Oh no. I’ll talk to them.” My supervisor came out and took the parent into her office. The parent later walked out probably more unhappy than in the beginning.

Y’all, I might “just” be a secretary but in my department, I’m the most senior employee in my department. I might not have the authority to do anything but that doesn’t mean I don’t know anything. Coming in and insulting me just isn’t the way…

Ruth was rude
Well gosh, Ruth, you must care because you commented on a two year old post…

I’m not sure what Ruth thought she was doing by replying to a two year old post of the hubby with Victoria Pratt but it got her block from me after the screenshot. How did she happen upon a two year old post of mine? And when she happened upon it, what compelled her to comment in such a manner? Was I wrong to find the comment rude? Well, we’ll never know because I blocked her. She probably won’t even notice.

Whilst unpacking CDs, R found some old tech. Pictured above is a Palm m105, a Nokia phone, and a Sansa mp3 player. I don’t think any of the devices were ones that I personally used. Maybe the Nokia at one point? The Palm still works! It takes two AAA batteries and it turned on. Wild.

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 7

I’ve been trying to use the Z Flip 7 more than my iPhone but it’s probably more like a 50/50 split. I can do almost everything on the Z Flip 7 but I’m taking my time adding things. I haven’t gotten to add my bank card to it yet, for example. I’ve been taking pictures and playing my mobile games on it, as well as checking my social media. I’ve used it as my audio player in the Edge. I’m not sure if I like the case but I think I need the case to keep it in good condition.

new tech, old tech

Will I ever go Android primary? Probably not but I will always want a foldable. Maybe someday, Apple will go foldable and I’ll get to try a different kind of Android phone. For now, I’m loving the flippy kind of foldable.

Also, I need a name for my Z Flip 7. I’m thinking something Game of Thrones themed?

TV/MOVIES

Wednesday – First half of season two dropped. A good watch, even though I forgot a lot of details of season one, so the new season might not be hitting the way it should. It was entertaining for sure. Wednesday is as dark as ever, Pugsley more than a little goofy, Morticia quite mysterious, and Gomez always loving.

The Sandman – This series ended with melancholy and hope. Season two was split into two drops and we finished it this past week. So well done. I’m going to miss that world. I’ll probably re-watch season two sometime soon. It really was that good…

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – I am very much enjoying this show. It’s so much fun to watch. I like the variety of it and how the episodes are a bit standalone with a light thread running through them to keep them connected. It’s a bright spot in our tv watching…

Old Guard 2 – I probably should have watched the first movie because other than the whole Andy no longer being immortal bit, I forgot a lot. Good thing the second movie didn’t rely on more than the broad strokes of the first one. The movie ended on a cliffhanger! What the hey, man.

Jurassic World: Rebirth – This movie was entertaining enough but I’m glad I didn’t see it in the theatre. What was up with the alien looking dinosaur? I was glad when certain characters met their end and glad for the ones that made it to the end of the movie.

I do so need to get back to my writing. I’ve been way too long paused on my current story. Alas!

Here’s to a good week three of the 2025-26 school year…
