last full week of the year

The cloudy days gave way to rain and some sunshine and slightly higher temperatures. The temperatures are cold again but as I write this Sunday morning, the sun is shining bright and the skies are blue.

In the days before Christmas, my grand-nephew (cousin’s grandson) Jelani had a severe asthma attack from which he did not recover. On the morning of the 24th, he passed away. He was an organ donor and four families were given hope for Christmas. Jelani was 25 years old and leaves behind his mother, his younger siblings, and an extended family that loves him and will miss him.

I didn’t see much of Jelani throughout his life, especially when he and his mother moved out of state. I watched him grow up through social media, saw him progress through his life and become a pharmacy technician. His passing is so very sad and my heart aches for his mother and his siblings. This part of life is so heartbreaking.

His families and friends remember his big smile and generous spirit. His last gift of life through his organ donations perhaps eases some of the sorrow. His spirit is everlasting but parts of him still live and give hope. A comfort, in a way.

Journey well into the next, Jelani. You are remembered with much love…

We went to San Leandro twice this past week, once for Christmas and then again yesterday to drop off the laundry. We spent a couple of hours there before heading back home.

going along Vasco
on Vasco

It’s that time of year when the drive through Vasco is so pretty because the hills are so green. Even though the drive is getting a bit old, at least it’s scenic right now. There’s something peaceful about leaving behind 580 and driving up Vasco.

TV

Pluribus (Apple TV) – I have to say, even though the premise of the show definitely hooked me, I had a hard time with Carol Struka. She is just not a likable character, which is a testament to her portrayer, Rhea Seehorn. I understand the character’s motivations but her methods, yikes! That said, I do like Zosia and I know I’m not supposed to because she’s one of the Joined. Oddly enough, I do like Manousos, even though he is just as stubborn as Carol. Anyhoo, season one was pretty good. I’m curious how long we have to wait for season two.

Stranger Things (Netflix) – As we move to the end of this show, I must say that it’s definitely quality but perhaps having too much time between seasons was a bit of a detriment, especially considering some of the characters are still supposed to be in high school. We have one more episode to go. It’s really a movie, considering its length.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+) – I love this show. It makes me want to read the books again. I love that even though I have read the books, it’s been long enough that I can’t remember the finer details of the stories. Probably why I want to read the books again. 😉

I’m working the upcoming week, which hasn’t happened in AGES. I usually take the work days between Christmas and New Years off but this year, the holidays fell on Thursday, which made it odd to take the time off my usual way. So I’ll work three days and have January 1st and the 2nd off. I’m thinking it will be calm at work for the last days of 2025. Fingers crossed!

Random thoughts:

  • I love all stuff I get from Cowboy Tears. Beautiful and quality. Every time I get something, I like that I’m supporting my friend.
  • I need to handwrite more.
  • Gotta start at least thinking of when to start packing.
  • I generally don’t want to think unkindly about people but sometimes you have to wonder about some folks…
