The mornings this past week have been chilly and foggy. Perfect weather for layering. I’m glad to wear my sweaters and jackets because the weather will turn before we know it. I’ll enjoy the sweater weather for as long as I can.
TV/MOVIES
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy – The first two episodes dropped and I am quite hooked. I love the vibe of the show so far and I’m looking forward to seeing more. Will mother and son reunite? Will we see more Betazoids? (LOVED that they were featured in an episode!) We shall see!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians – Are we really near the end of the season? Darn it! One more episode to go. I am so enjoying this show. I really want to read the books again. 😀 Now, will the Golden Fleece do in the show what it did in the books? We shall see!
The Running Man – This was a good one! It didn’t do well at the box office, did it? Bummer. I bet it does better on streaming. It’s a fantastic watch if you like action and thrills. Glen Powell did a good job! Not sure it was totally necessary to get him in just a towel but I’m not complaining. Nope, not me. It’s violent and bloody in parts and the world is bleak but not without hope.
Tron: Ares – I went into this movie with very low expectations (after all, Jared Leto is in it) but I came away not too annoyed by it. I rather didn’t mind it at all. It had some good parts though perhaps they might have wanted to work a little more on the Ares character and his progression into not being such a killing program.
Sherlock – We did a re-watch of this absolutely amazing show. If you’ve never watched it, do yourself a favor and give it a spin. It still holds up, though the tech in it has definitely aged. Think of it as a “period piece,” if it makes you feel better. 😉
Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials – We watched this limited series in one go. I enjoyed it! I consider myself a casual Agatha Christie fan but I’ve never read the story associated with this show, so it was all new to me. I thought it was very well done and it felt like an origin story. I wonder if there will be another season.
The Internship – I’m going to admit this from the start– the only reason I watched this was for Sullivan Stapleton. It was nice seeing him in action again. I’m sure some Strike Back fans were happy to see that Philip Winchester was in it too. Let me just say that I didn’t mind what happened to his character in the movie. As for the movie itself, I didn’t mind watching it at all. The end though? Not sure if I liked that “twist”. Oh well, I think I’ll get some cool screenshots of Sully at a later time. 😉
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – The first episode seems to have set a somewhat lighter tone compared to the other shows. Is it just the first episode or is the whole show a bit lighter? So far, I think I like Dunk. There’s something about him that’s sweetly earnest.
On Saturday morning, I was actually able to go to the farmers market. It was also the Makers Blvd, so extra stuff to check out besides the usual market things. It was also a unicorn crew meet-up, so good times!
The morning started off very chilly and foggy but the sun eventually shone through to give us slightly warmer temperatures and bright skies. I was able to get my corn in a cup (yes!) and we ended up at the wine bar for mimosas. Yes to Saturday morning mimosas!
It was so lovely getting together with the unicorn crew. We caught up on each other’s lives, enjoyed the mimosas, nibbled on snacks, and just enjoyed each other’s company. It was nice sharing the morning with everyone. I really loved it. It feels like such a rare thing to be able to spend time outside of work with current/former workmates. I adore these ladies.
Random things…
- We visited San Leandro after work on Friday. The drive felt different. Maybe it was because it was a different time of day. It had been awhile since we started off towards near evening time. The visit was quiet and perhaps a little melancholy. Being at the house seems to always feel melancholy.
- I’m trying to enjoy the slower pace of work right now because I know we’re about to rev up to my busy time. I’m not looking forward to my busy time. I’ll get it done though. I know I will.
- Is this the time of year when my creative energy just zaps out? I keep re-reading my old stories yet I’m having a hard time ending the one story I was writing before my November novel. Do I just like the characters too much to end the story?
I fell into a little nostalgia watching Sully in The Internship. He’s gotten older, of course, from his time on Strike Back but I still feel that spark when I watch him. I was reminded of all the stories I’ve written in which he plays the main fella. (He’s been a great book boyfriend.) He still looks natural being a badass. And lo, it was much fun watching him and PW interact as adversaries as opposed to partners. I certainly had a lot of fun watching Sully beat the crap out of PW. Delightful!
