Happy Anniversary to us! We’ve been married twenty-eight years. It doesn’t feel that long and yet it’s almost three decades. We must really like each other to still be married and happy about it, eh? We have so many more good days than bad and for that, I am so grateful.
We took this weekend to get away to one of our favorite places, Carmel-by-the-Sea. We arrived on Friday evening and headed to Brophy’s Tavern after we checked in for our room at the Carmel Oaks Inn. The fish and chips were good! After Brophy’s, we walked to Mulligan Public House for more drinks. Such a cool place with ladies tending the bar. Very cool and welcoming.
Saturday was a full day for us. We started early with breakfast at Katy’s Place. It was good but worth the price? Hmmm, maybe not… The whole morning was one of cold breezes and soft and misty rain. Still, we took the walk down Ocean Avenue to the beach and then back up. We stopped at the Coach Outlet store and of course I couldn’t resist buying something. We had a drink and a cheese board at Links Club before sitting down inside Alvarado Street Brewery and Bistro. We had a good spot for people watching and drinking.
We had time before dinner to take a nap then freshen up. The late afternoon skies were clear enough for sunshine but the air was still very cool. I loved it. We had an appetizer and drinks at A.W. Shucks Cocktail & Oyster Bar. The shrimp cocktail was so good! I had a mai tai, which was also very good.
We had reservations at Pangaea Grill, which was just as good as reviewed. I had the seafood pasta, which was so delicious. I had wine with dinner, a very lovely Syrah (Luli) that reminded me why I like drinking Syrah/Shiraz. For dessert, I had tiramisu and it was good. The whole dinner was definitely delicious and filling.
Our Easter Sunday began with us packing up and heading home, with the 17 Mile Drive as our last thing to do before going on the road. It was different doing the drive from Carmel to Pacific Grove but still very lovely, especially in the morning. The sound and the sight of the water crashing on the shore soothes me.
It was wonderful to go away for the weekend and leaving on Friday after work made the weekend feel longer. Carmel is one of our favorite places because of the quiet vibe and the weather and the sights and the shopping. It was also good to come home. Maybe it’s all just good because we’re together…
