The first day of school was WILD. I interacted with more parents that day than I do on average. It was a controlled wildness. I did my best to give visitors the attention they needed. I kept my impatience at bay, especially in the face of people who wanted transfers for their students. I genuinely believe that people must think that the district office is closed during the summer because some of the questions could have been asked weeks ago. Goodness!
TV
Shogun – We finally pressed play on this one and finished it before the end of the week. I really very much enjoyed it! At first, the Englishman annoyed the hell out of me but he grew on me as he seemed to learn the ways of the people who first imprisoned him. I did not mind at all that most of the series was subtitled. I loved listening to the Japanese and wondered a little how much the words matched the subtitles. 😉 I was sad about some of the character deaths. And I realized that I really enjoyed the portrayal of one of the main characters and that she is a fantastic actor because in another series we’d watched her in, her character annoyed the hell out of me. So good on her!
House of the Dragon – I’m writing this less than an hour from the season ender airing. I love how the dragons are FINALLY making their mark. I want more dragons in action! I wonder what the last episode of the season will bring us. I’ll probably update this after we’ve watched it…
(after watching the season ender) Well done! Except it feels like a total setup for next season, which comes in two years’ time? Is that right? What the heck! I loved how they brought Daemon to that final vision and his realization of his part in the grander scheme of things. They’re all just pieces of a bigger story…
Aftertaste – Now we’ve started watching an Erik Thomson show from Australia. So far, it’s kinda crazy but I like it! Short episodes too, which is nice. 😉
SPORTS
The Olympics – I’ve been enjoying the events we’ve been watching. We’ve been watching what feels to be random things and that’s been fun. It’s nice seeing the one Filipino gymnast get two golds. Good for him! The US seems to be doing well on the medal count.
I’m not enjoying the way NBC cuts in with their little commercials during the streaming. They cut in when people are talking and it’s super annoying. I get that they need to pay the bills but they should figure a better way of doing it. If the commentators are talking and they get cut off by the ad breaks, who are they actually talking to at that point? So super annoying.
MUSIC
hungover – Ella Langely – In one of those moments of listening to Today’s Country on Apple Music, a song called “you look like you love me” caught my ear and I liked it enough to look up the artist, Ella Langley. When I saw that she was born on my 28th birthday, I knew I just had to get her album. (I listened to the songs that were already released and liked them well enough.) The album, hungover, dropped this past Friday and I’ve listened to it a few times over. I’m digging it!
I’m not sure why I can’t get my writing head focused. I have certain scenes playing over and over in my head but I can’t get them into any kind of order. Something is missing. Something is just out of my reach. I’m sure it’ll all wait until just before November, hopefully right in time for National Novel Writing Month. Hopefully. 😉
