Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – We watched this over the weekend. I liked it! Now, do I like it enough to buy it on steelbook? Hmm, I just might. It’s visually stunning and the performances were spot on. I think I need to watch it again and follow it up with Fury Road just to see how well they connect.
The Acolyte won’t have a season two and I am super irritated. The series started off a little slow but we stayed with it and I think it really came together in the end. I want to know more about the characters and it’s a damn shame that it won’t be given a second season to explore the mysteries it created in the first season. It’s really so unfair and if any “fan” is actually rejoicing about its cancellation, well they can totally f**k off.
The iPhone app Halide had an update last week and I’ve started using it a bit more. There’s a setting called “zero process” and apparently it strips a lot of the processing and just takes one picture (as opposed to the default camera taking a bunch of pictures and mashing them up together). The results have been interesting. I took some zero process shots at the concert on Friday and I thought they came out rather nicely. There’s a bit of noise to the shots but sometimes you just want that look, eh? So there we are.
Saturday – 24 August
- I’m feeling a bit of joy these days in regards to the political climate. Ahhh, hope abounds! I hope that cautious optimism means good things come election time. The constant sowing of fear and darkness has been exhausting. We are better than this, aren’t we? It’s time for the light and progress. Let’s do this!
- I’m listening to some OPM right now and one of the songs I just heard was so dramatic. I don’t know why but I find some Filipino music to be so dramatic! Not all of the modern OPM is like that but when certain songs play, I hear it. It bemuses me as much as it comforts me.
- I’m reading three books at the moment: Under the Surface by Diana Urban (hardback), Redshirts by John Scalzi (ebook), and Drop Dead by Lily Chu (audiobook). They’re all very different but all good reads so far. And yes, I count audiobooks as “reading.” My verdicts so far
- Under the Surface – I bought this book because I started following the author on Threads and I saw she was autographing pre-orders so I thought, why not? I’m about a third of the way through the book and it’s a good read so far. When I read it, I turn on my Calm app and listen to the Paris rain since the book is set in France. Ahh, setting the mood…
- Redshirts – I read this one while I’m eating my lunch at work. I’ve enjoyed all the John Scalzi books I’ve read and this one is a fun one, especially as I’m a sci-fi fan in general and a Star Trek fan specifically. If you know the term “redshirt” then you have a little idea about this story. Fun, I tell ya!…
- Drop Dead – This one is an Audible Original and I was intrigued that it’s narrated by John Cho and Phillipa Soo, so I pressed play on it. I’ve been enjoying the story a lot. Phillipa Soo does a good job with her part of the narration. John Cho sounds a little flat but I think it might be character driven (he reads the male character’s POV) and I don’t notice it much since I’m too engrossed by the story. I listen to the book when I’m walking to the library. Before I started reading Under the Surface, I also listened while at the library…
- I received a FutureMe letter this week, from a year ago. I need to write more of those! Anyhoo, the letter reminded me that I started carrying two phones last summer. Yes, it’s already been a year since getting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. It’s definitely a secondary phone for me as I don’t use it as a primary at all. My iPhone 14 Pro Max takes better pictures and video, so it’s my default in those situations, especially with video.
- We went to the farmers market today and it was actually sprinkling a little when we were heading back to the parking garage. It might have hit 80F as the high today and it was a lovely hint of cooler days. The temperatures are going to warm up again in the next few days and I’m not looking forward to it. I find the hot days to be rather exhausting. Can sweater weather finally make its way to us? Alas.
Sunday – 25 August
The Killer – We watched this movie last night. Nathalie Emmanuel is always a treat to watch and especially more when she’s playing a kick-ass assassin. I enjoyed the movie and I liked that it was set in Paris because I got to hear some French and understand a word here and there. One of the characters even said my name! Neat.
Spooks (MI-5 here in the US) – We’ve started watching this show. A young Matthew Macfadyen! Every episode always seems so dire. They couldn’t have sustained that kind of urgency throughout the whole series, could they? Anyhoo, the ones we’ve watched have been entertaining. Love seeing all the old tech in these early episodes.
Time to close out this entry. It’s Sunday morning and we have the Little League Home Run Derby on. Love seeing the kids do their thing. Hit those balls over that fence!
Here’s to a good week ahead! 🙂
