school’s out!

What a week. I was noticeably stressed for most of the hours of work. I tried to tell myself not be irritated by the emails and phone calls but it was not easy. The whole transfer season this year was different– the timeline skewed, previously “sure things” no longer thus– resulting in more calls and emails. On top of all of that, I think I’m stressed at the realization that my wonderful boss is leaving and the uncertainty of the days of ahead feels daunting. I know that we’ll keep grinding away but things will be different and so many changes are afoot.

Alas.

I needed this
a drink on Monday evening after work

The good thing? SCHOOL IS OUT! This means that “traffic” will be lighter. (Can I even call it traffic when it takes about two songs to get to work?) The parking lot across the office will be empty, it’ll be quiet at what is usually the time school ends. Hopefully I’ll have less calls in the next couple of weeks. And I have many days off in the coming weeks. I don’t get to take the summer off as a 12 month employee but I do get to take time off without too much fuss. The nice thing about working for a school district.

BOOKS

Daughter of the Moon Goddess – Finished this one Friday. I liked it! It’s part of a duology so I’m in line for a copy from my library via Libby. I liked the twists and turns this book took and how the main character’s objective was resolved. I’m looking forward to the second book. The book was rather PG in terms of the “romance” of it– there was kissing but nothing much more. So mostly not spicy. I didn’t mind.

My next library book is ready to be read in my Kindle ap. It’s an addition to the Daevabad Trilogy and I’m glad to read more of that world. I’ll have thoughts on it after I’ve read it.

TV

The Better Sister – I spent the first couple or so episodes of this series not liking the two sisters at all, so neither was the better one, in my opinion. And if pressed, I probably would have chosen Elizabeth Banks’ sister because at least she wasn’t uptight like Jessica Biel’s sister. I suppose it’s a a testament to the writing that I stuck with it and ended up understanding both sisters by the end of the series. Not sure if I would recommend it but it was well acted and decently written. The twists were nicely done and the resolution to the main mystery was resolved. I’ll leave it to others to decide if it was well done or not.

Sherlock & Daughter – We started this show this past week. We’ve watched all the episodes so far and are waiting for the next one. It’s a pretty good show so far. The music sounds like echoes of the BBC Sherlock, which is rather curious to me but I also like the notion that they’re ever so slightly connected. It’s a CW show, so it’s rather PG-13. During one of the scenes, the park looked familiar enough for me to look where they filmed. DUBLIN! They filmed there probably just after we left last year. What are the chances? It’s made me scrutinize the location shots a bit. Let’s see how the season ends before I give my verdict. So far though, so good.

Murderbot – I love that the episodes are short but darn it, I’m always slightly annoyed when an episode ends because I want MORE. I do love the humor and intrigue and action of this show. I’ve liked Alexander Skarsgård since True Blood and this show has definitely deepened that adoration. I love when actors can make me laugh or cry or just FEEL something. It’s their real gift. An actor can look good and sound good but if you don’t feel anything real when they’re on screen, are they actually a good actor? Just a thought. Watch Murderbot for the sci-fi mystery, the humor, the action and intrigue of it all.

my evening view
my view on most evenings…

The Orioles are in town to play the A’s and R looked up ticket prices. WTF with the prices?! I absolutely understand inflation and the fact that these are professional athletes playing at the highest level in their sport but who thinks that charging almost $50 for LAWN tickets for a MINOR LEAGUE ballpark is a good idea? And almost $100 for first base outfield seats? Those prices and the A’s lackluster season so far cannot be ingratiating the team to Sacramento and the dwindling A’s fan base.

seriously?!
more prices for the A’s v Orioles
minor league ticket prices
prices for the same park but when the minor league team plays

Again, I absolutely understand that the A’s are a major league baseball team and therefore their ticket prices will be higher than the Sacramento Rivercats, the minor league team who belongs to the same ball park. But this much more? And from the few times we’ve happened upon an A’s broadcast at Sutter Health Park, the ball park has not looked sold out at all. There are plenty of empty seats. I imagine that we’ll make the trek to Sacramento someday to watch the A’s but if we had done it this weekend, we would have been in Orioles gear (I have a Tejada jersey somewhere). I have never considered going to an A’s game wearing the other team’s colors but this is how betrayed I feel, to be dramatic about it. If you know me, then you know how much I loved the Oakland Athletics. If the team had departed Oakland in an honorable manner, I might have stayed an A’s fan. Right now, I’m still trying to figure it out. I’ll wear my Oakland A’s gear but I doubt I ever buy anything A’s related in this era or the future. And this makes me a little sad…

The random stuff in bullet points…

  • We re-watched Serenity this weekend. It had been awhile since our last watch. The movie still holds up for me. Everyone looks young! And I still hate what happened to Wash. Alas! I don’t think I’ve ever watched the whole of Firefly. Maybe that should be the next watch.
  • We watched the end of both the women’s and men’s singles of the French Open. So much suspense! Both matches were a great watch.
  • Is it time for me to order more Taytos? Maybe so. I’m attached to those Irish crisps.
  • Everytime I visit Facebook, there’s a friend request from accounts purporting to be Riley Green, his mother, or Tyler Rich. Does that work for other people? Do other people see friend requests from “Riley Green” or “Karen Green” or “Tyler Rich” and believe that they are getting requests from the real people? I like to think it doesn’t work but I’m sure these fake accounts hook some. Ah well.
  • I keep thinking I’ll get to my mix playlists but oh no, Riley Green is still super heavy on the rotation. I still fall asleep to him and I’m back to listening to just him at work. I also save a lot of photos and videos of him on my phone. I can’t seem to stop!

  • I miss watching Super Rugby. ::sigh::
  • I should give myself a deadline to finish my current story. How about summer’s end?
looking forward to this one
Think he’ll make a good Superman?

Oh yes, I’m looking forward to Superman. Just a bit a month away. I’m ready to buy my ticket! I’ll be there for the first show. 😀
