I worked just three days this week and I did not feel as rejuvenated as I should have been, considering I had over a week off from work. Oh well, at least I had this long weekend!
We headed out on Friday morning, taking a more scenic route to South Lake Tahoe. California really is a beautiful state and there is definitely something for everyone. There wasn’t so much traffic but there were some slow spots owing to road construction. Oh, and there was that bridge letting boats pass through. We arrived at our destination before check-in. It was all automated. Got an email with our room information and code (no keycards or keys!) right at check-in time. We never saw front desk staff while we were there. Curious!
Our room was clean and functional. The bed was memory foam, I think, and did not really bounce. I don’t think I minded much sleeping on it but my sleep scores were only “ok.” Hopefully I sleep better now that we’re back home. The a/c worked well, keeping us cool through the night.
We had drinks and a light lunch before we checked in, heading to the Tipsy Putt, which was in walking distance. While we were there, we got the notification that our room was ready. On the way back, the elevation (and maybe the beer?) kicked my ass because I had a time during that walk. I need to get out more and walk! We got to our room, rested then freshened up. We headed out again for more drinks and eventually dinner.
We stopped at Stateline Restaurant and Brewery for drinks. We sat at the bar and watched some X-Games. It was a lively spot and we probably should have just eaten there because the gentleman sitting next to me had a fat prime rib that he didn’t even finish and it looked good! Alas, after our drinks, we headed out as it was now dinner time and we thought about checking out the place someone mentioned to us the other day, Base Camp Pizza Co.
It looked like there were a lot of people waiting at Basecamp Pizza Co. but we went to put our name on the waiting list. Then the hostess said it would be a 1.5 to 2 hours wait. We decided not to do that. We walked a bit and came upon Azul Latin Kitchen. The wait was only 45 min to 1 hour so we took it. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes. Yes!
We were seated inside and given waters right way. Thank goodness! The service was very good and we received our order in a timely manner. We got wings (pretty good!) and I got the tostada with rice and beans. Quite a yummy meal!
After dinner, we walked over to Target to get some snacks and soda for the room. We walked back to the Blue Jay Lodge and turned in for the evening. We started watching Young Sheldon on Netflix. Show still holds up!
Saturday was the reason for our trip– the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament. We started early-ish, heading out before 10 AM. We were in at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and planted at the 16th hole almost half past ten. We stayed there for awhile, enjoying the shade and slight breeze and various celebrities. It was nice being out there but again, the elevation really made itself known whenever we started walking to wherever we needed to go.
We didn’t stay as long as we could have at the 16th, heading to the Travis Mathew area and finding a shady spot to sit. We saw several golfers pass along to the 18th tee box. I was happy to sit in the shade and didn’t even take any pictures of the passers by. (I took a woefully low amount of photos this time around, alas!) We eventually decided to call it a day and headed out. We crossed the 18th fairway on the way!
After dropping off our stuff at the room, we headed to Basecamp Pizza Co. This time the wait was only about 15 minutes. Yah! We were seated and opted for sodas for this meal. I had the spaghetti bolognese, which was very good. The pizza looked good too but if there’s pasta, I’m going to get pasta. 😉
It was a good day and we had a good time. It’s always lovely taking those long weekends away, having new experiences in places we’ve visited before. I think my only wish was cooler weather but it wasn’t super hot, so can’t complain too much. The sun was bright, the skies were clear, and the little breeze brought relief at random intervals.
The tournament was well organized and they really do adhere to the rules. The young lady before me at the entrance was turned away because her clutch purse was not clear. Ooops! We did look for the water stations but never found them, which was one minor annoyance. We did end up buying two bottles of water, which were both almost done by the time we left. I brought my water tumbler, which kept one of the bottles of water cool. Nice! I think we left at a good time as most people were still behaving well enough. 😉
We left early in the morning, a bit before sun up. The roads were pretty clear until we got close to Sacramento. We were home before 9 AM. It was nice coming home. I had to turn on the a/c before we got home because the house was 78F upstairs. It really held on to yesterday’s heat. Yowsa!
I had a good time this weekend. I actually didn’t buy anything related to the event, which is a bit of a miracle. 😀 I think maybe I just didn’t want or need to add to my collection of hats or t-shirts or, heaven forbid, hoodies. Such restraint on my part. I think I wouldn’t mind going again, especially if Mark Mulder is there so I can get him to sign my Cardinals jersey. I’m glad to have gone after all these years watching it on tv. And it’s always lovely being in Lake Tahoe. So pretty there. I should have taken more pictures.
