It’s Sunday afternoon and I am so glad that I have tomorrow off. It’s been so lovely having this week off and I’m glad to have one more day before I’m back to work for three days. (I have two more long weekends coming up. Yah!)
We woke up early yesterday for the 4th of July parade downtown. We were there just before 8 AM, intending on setting down our chairs but lo, there weren’t any spots! We ended up sitting in the wine bar’s outside patio, where we had a great spot for watching the parade.
Sit long enough downtown and you’re bound to see someone you know. I love that old town feel sometimes. My co-worker happened upon me and ended up sharing my space to watch the parade. It was nice seeing her outside of the office!
I had a pretty decent view, as you can see. I was sitting on a tall chair and people were walking past us all throughout the parade then this older man decided to just stop right in front of us, definitely blocking some of my view. He didn’t even have the decency to look behind him to make sure he wasn’t blocking anyone. I was annoyed but not enough to really say anything. R eventually asked him, “So is this your spot now?” The man turned to him, making confused noises. R told him, “My wife is trying to take pictures and you’re blocking her view.” I thought the man was going to act like he didn’t understand him but he walked on after a moment later.
The parade was about an hour and it was… okay. It was definitely well attended, likely because it’s the 250th anniversary of this country’s independence but it didn’t have the razzle dazzle of other parades we’ve witnessed downtown. Honestly, I think the Homecoming Parade was more exciting than this one. It was great see everyone out so early in the day to enjoy the celebration in sunshine.
I had three mimosas and a jelly shot, all before noon! 😛 The weather was so nice and I was in the shade and the drinks went down easy. There was even a lovely cool breeze…
MOVIES/TV
Project Hail Mary [Prime Video] – PHM is streaming and we watched it the other night. It’s my 3rd time seeing it and I still find it as charming as ever. Such a good movie!
Enola Holmes 3 [Netflix] – This was an easy watch. I kinda love that Sherlock was the “damsel in distress.” Millie Bobby Brown is delightful as Enola and she’s fun to watch. A nice installment in the series. I wonder if they’ll have more. They don’t need to do more but I wouldn’t mind seeing Henry as Sherlock again. 🙂
House of the Dragon – When this show is in between seasons, I think, “Is it really as good as I think it is?” Then when it’s here, I’m like, “Yes, I think it is.” I enjoy it well enough, even though by its nature, it’s not a feel good, happy story. Still, dragons!
The random musings…
- During my week off, I scanned more old photos. I should probably try and do them in some kind of order but randomly scanning is fun too. The picture above is of me in front of my first two cars. The 1974 Comet was my first car. So old! The Plymouth Sundance was my car for college. It made it up to Cal State Hayward in a much easier fashion than the Comet but I did like driving the Comet back in my high school days.
- We ordered my home office desk a few days ago. I shall hopefully have my home office more put together soon after the desk delivers. This room is a bit of a mess right now. 😛
- I can hear the goings-on at the park right now. It sounds like they’re doing karaoke or something. Good for them? It’s pretty loud though, if I can hear them with my window shut, eh? I think I heard “Part of Your World” being sung just a few minutes ago.
- The American Century Championship is next weekend and no Mark Mulder? What the heck?! Hope the weather is nice. What am I going to wear?
- I’ve been watching bookish YouTube videos lately, my latest discovery being Plot Twist, Please. They are really a fun watch and read way more books than I do. It’s fun listening to the current goings-on in the bookish world. Watching them is spurring me on to read more, which I’m doing. I’m not reading with the speed of my younger years but I’m more about enjoying the book rather than keeping up with everyone else. Having said that, yes, I’ve started dipping into new, popular releases. Being part of the Book of the Month will also expose me to newer releases, so that’s a good thing. It’s been interesting getting back into physical books, I tell ya!
- As I slowly unpack, I keep finding partially filled notebooks and journals. I’m a little miffed at myself for not filling up the books but also bemused by the contents. I did find the book I was using for practicing my left hand writing and it’s about half full, so I might start using it again to practice with the left hand.
At this moment, the party is still going at the park. It’s just past 2100 hrs and the sun has set but the music is still going on. And it’s loud! I feel like I shouldn’t be able to hear it from our house with the windows closed. I’m mostly amused about it, honestly. It sounds like a mini-concert.
Here’s to a good week! 😀
