first week of school down

This week was a bit trying. I should have expected it, as it was the first week of school.

(Short story, if you don’t already know: The school districts out this way operate on a modified traditional schedule. The students get two weeks off after every quarter– generally October, the usual December into January, and March. This means summer break is shorter at about seven weeks. I love it mostly because I can take time off during the breaks without it affecting my work too much. I’m a 12 month employee so I don’t get the built in school breaks. I do get the holidays off, which is already pretty amazing.

Now back to the post.)

I had to get my TB test done and the first appt Kaiser offered up was for the first day of school. I took it because why did I have to make an appointment when in the many years prior, I could just go in and do it?! I actually didn’t mind that I had to leave work early on the first day off school to get my TB test done (part one), especially since that day was a bit much.

I gave myself plenty of time to get to Kaiser, arriving early. I checked in and was taken late. No worries. I didn’t mind since being there meant I wasn’t at work.

(It sounds like I don’t like work, doesn’t it? I actually like where I work but when it’s hectic for the first week of school, it does wear on the nerves, quickly.)

sweet goodness from Cowboy Tears
sweet goodness from Cowboy Tears

When I came home from my TB skin test, my new haul from Cowboy Tears was waiting for me. I LOVE when they throw in something extra, especially when they’re socks. Those Cowboy Tears socks are so comfy. Besides the actual products, I do adore when Sabina writes personal notes to the tags. How sweet is she? And lo, it took me a moment to realize that Tyler wrote something to me too, on the product sheet. What the heck?! See, this is why I love and adore those two. Truly!

waiting room again

I was back at Kaiser on Wednesday for the skin read. I’m negative! Of course, right? This time I arrived just about 1530 hrs, which was the time they could check my arm. I was happy to be out of the office again and was home before the end of my work day.

To make up my hours, I watched two of our mandated annual videos at home. They were both almost an hour and I did well on the end of video assessments. I passed them both. 🙂 I think I still have three more to watch. Joy.

Friday face

I was so glad when Friday finally came. It felt like most of the people who walked into our building needed to talk to someone other than me. Oh sure, there were the transfer questions but a lot of it was not for me and it made for annoyed parents. Monday was the worst day, of course, and Friday was much better than the rest, especially since it was the last workday of the week. We made it!

MOVIES/MUSIC

Masters of the Universe – I got distracted while watching this movie but I think I paid attention to enough of it. It wasn’t that bad! I had no expectations but I will say I am glad I did not go to the theatre to watch it. Oof! It was funny and kinda stupid but it was entertaining in a harmless way.

“Imagine That” – Riley Green revealed another song from his upcoming album. He’d shared a tidbit of this one awhile back on his socials. It sounds good all polished up. I do enjoy his slower songs. He seems the most expressive on them. He’s doing something different with his voice in this one. Wonder how it sounds live. Hope he performs it when we see him in concert.

I’m a little in love with this shot…

This weekend we braved the hot temperatures to go out for a bit of mattress shopping. We’ve had our queen sized bed since we lived in Salida and it’s been with us through five moves. When we moved into our new house, we talked about finally getting a king sized bed and this weekend, we did it. We tested out a few beds on firmness and decided on one.

We woke up this morning and dismantled the queen bed and brought its parts to the downstairs bedroom. Then we put together the frame for our new bed, finishing just in time for the delivery. The delivery men were here for just a few minutes. When they were gone, we had a new king sized bed in our bedroom. 😀

We will probably order more sheets at some point but we had to have sheets now so we headed out in the early afternoon to JC Penney. I hadn’t been there in awhile and lo, they have what used to be the main entrance all locked up and we had to enter on the side. Or maybe it’s now the front? Anyhoo, we found some sheets and pillows and a mattress protector. Yah! It’s going to be so lovely having new sheets on our new bed. Will I sleep better? We shall see!

the new bed frame

This past week left me drained. I would come home and just not think about work. It wasn’t the actual work that was draining, it was the constant revelations of people LYING. So many people are lying to get their children into our district and it’s EXHAUSTING. Oh, and then there are the families who live outside of our district who think they are so special and their request should circumvent the process. The entitlement is off the charts with so many of these folks. My patience was running thin, especially when some folks are giving me looks when I KNOW they’re lying.

Stop lying. Just STOP.

me today
  • I keep watching videos of the Z Fold8 and part of me really really wants it. But in what capacity? It would have to replace my Z Flip7, which is in good condition and doesn’t need an upgrade. I can’t replace my iPhone with an Android phone and have two Android phones because that would defeat the purpose of me having two different mobile operating systems.
  • Then there’s the upcoming iPhone Fold. I wonder what they’ll call it. I wonder how much it will cost. I wonder if I will somehow talk myself into that phone because I’m due for an upgrade on my iPhone. I think that the iPhone Fold (or whatever they end up calling it) will be stupid expensive and not worth being an early adopter of their try at the form factor. But I bet I’ll be tempted nonetheless.
  • I’m bummed I didn’t make time for the new Spider-Man movie this weekend. Oh well.
  • I need to finish reading/listening to Iron Flame so I can get to the next book.

Time to eat some leftover pizza! Oh, and try not to think about tomorrow being Monday. 😛
