07 September – lundi
- After going out on Saturday, we’ve stayed in for the rest of the weekend. I even took a nap earlier today. Glorious!
08 September – mardi
- Happy Birthday Melanie!
- Back to work today! I’m sure I meant to write more for yesterday. What was I doing that I couldn’t do more than one line? Ooops.
- The temperatures are heating up this week. The hint of sweater weather last week was just a tease. Darn it!
09 September – mercredi
- Apple announced the iPhone Duo today (along with the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and other stuff). Even though the iPhone Duo looks quite intriguing, I cannot bring myself to regret getting the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. I think I made the right choice. Maybe in two years, I’ll be of different mind. 😉
- A fellow Tyler Rich fan passed away. I saw a post this morning and the news has been on my mind all day. We were often in the same place at the same time (Tyler’s shows) but we never hung out and never really said more than a friendly hello. She was a huge supporter of Tyler’s and shared her adoration for his work in wonderful ways. This is what I remember about her. I know she was so much more to her family and friends and the world is a bit dimmer without her glow. Krystle, journey well into the next. You were loved and you will be missed…
10 September – jeudi
- It was freakin’ HOT today. It was oppressively hot today. It’s supposed to cool down but not to sweater weather temps quite yet. Still, I’m all for the dipping of the temperatures soon. Please.
- A parent called regarding her student moving to Oakley. After a bit of conversation, I asked if the student would be living in our district. She replied, yes, in Oakley. I asked, did you check the address. She answered, it’s the closest school to the address. I asked for the address and didn’t even need the school locater when she told me the street. Oh, I told her, that belongs to Antioch USD. You’ll need to call them regarding enrollment. The lesson here is that just because a school might be physically close to your address does not mean that your address belongs to that school or even district…
11 September – vendredi
- Yes, it’s Friday! And sweet, it’s actually cooler today. We’re currently under 60F at just past 0700 hrs. Nice.
- Happy Birthday to Shane R., Sean D., and Harry Connick Jr!
- Happy Anniversary to the Hudsons!
- It was Patriot Day today. I didn’t talk about it with anyone and I was glad. I read only a few things (John Scalzi’s repost of his thoughts after that day stays with me). I’ll echo his thoughts with this– I remember the days after and how quiet the skies were. We lived in Hayward at the time and were close enough to hear the planes fly on their way into SFO and maybe even OAK. The quiet was so damn eerie. I remember that much.
- While I was writing this entry, my site freaked out a little. I’m glad I didn’t lose anything. Yikes!
- I left for work a few minutes early so that I could go through the car wash. I might just make this a weekly thing because why not? I should clean the inside of the windows though. It’s been awhile. 😛
12 September – samedi
- It’s been a lazy Saturday and I don’t mind at all.
- Henry Cavill is still a freakin’ hottie. We watched In the Grey and Henry looks quite good in it. 😉 Also, I enjoyed the movie. I’ll probably say more later.
13 September – dimanche
- Now it’s after midnight. I’m in my study and the window is open. Ahhh, the cool air. I should go to sleep but I took a nap today so my sleep schedule is a little off. I’ll probably go to bed soon.
TV/MOVIES
In The Grey – First of all, why is this movie not available in 4K physical media here in the US? What a freakin’ travesty! Otherwise, I liked this movie. I think I have this “meh” feeling about Jake Ghyllenhaal but then when I watch him in something, it’s fine. Henry looked rather fantastic and I loved the snarkiness of his character. The real star of the movie for me was Eiza González. I love beautiful and smart female characters and she was all that with just the right amount of vulnerability. The movie was smart and filled with so many details. You really have to pay attention but that’s fine because it all looks good, from the people to the locales. I’d be so happy if I could get it on 4K disc, darn it. And lo, Henry was just sooo easy on the eyes. 😉
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The latest episode had the ever amazing Joe Morton playing Admiral Simon Reeger. This was a tense episode with both the storylines with the one on the Enterprise so very much so. Joe Morton was fantastic and I suppose it was nice learning about the Kirks and their father. I’m trying to enjoy SNW as much as I can (and I am very much enjoying it, quirky episodes and all) because I think it’s the last ST series we’ll see for awhile, which is a freakin’ damn shame.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe – Okay, so I find this show hilarious and entertaining because I love The Big Bang Theory or is it actually as hilarious and entertaining as I’m finding it? Maybe it’s a bit of both but I really do enjoy it. It’s goofy and crazy and I’m digging all the different universes we’re seeing. And I love the cameos! Keep them coming!
Lanterns – I’m really liking this show. I don’t think I had many expectations about it but the more we watch, the more I want. I’m glad that they’re not (seemingly) dangling mysteries without answering questions. I like that when one thing seems answered, another mystery crops up. So good.
Some thoughts on the Apple Event because at heart, I’m probably considered an Apple gal:
- If I hadn’t opted for the Z Fold8, I would have probably already pre-ordered the iPhone 18 Pro because it’s actually time for me to upgrade my iPhone. I would not have chosen the iPhone Duo because then I would have had two folding phones (the Z Flip 7 being the other) and that just didn’t seem like the smart move.
- The iPhone Duo looks so INTRIGUING. Apple knows how to optimize and polish their devices, hardware and software wise. Next time I’m at the Apple Store, I am definitely going to take one in hand just for the feel. I’m probably going to be surprised by how heavy it is compared to my Z Fold8.
- The Apple Watch Series 12 looks spiffy, especially that dark bronze color. If I were in the market for a new Apple Watch, that one would definitely have my attention.
The Apple Event has spawned so much commentary and I can’t wait to watch my favorite tech YouTubers give their thoughts on the new devices. I will be especially interested in reviews from the ones who use foldables in general. Will I suffer from FOMO? I don’t think so. I’m pretty happy with my two phone combination and I am very cognizant of the fact that I am lucky to be able to experience two smartphones. It’s fun experimenting and learning things. 🙂
Here’s to a good week. Just two weeks and then it’s Fall Break for the kiddos out here. Sweet!
