The sun is shining this Sunday morning and it’s in the mid 30s outside as I write. I am loving this weather because I like sweater weather and I’m living in my hoodies when I’m not at work. Well, you might see me in a hoodie at work if it’s Friday. 😉
First week of second semester is complete! I think working second part of break allowed me to come in this week with a not outrageous amount of voicemails and emails. I wish I had cleaned off my desk more but it’ll be there for me to do when I get to it.
- When you send online gift certificates to your loved ones, be sure you’ve got their correct email address. A few weeks ago, I was going though one of my gmail accounts and lo, there was a $25 Apple GC in one of the emails. Was it a scam? Heck no! So thank you, random person. I enjoyed buying Candy Crush Saga coins with that GC!… Not long after that, I was checking another one of my email address and lo, a gift card for Nordstroms! It was not an unsubstantial amount and the sender might have wanted to be really super sure about the email address. Alas for them but bully for me. Thank you, random person, for the boots I’ve already received and the loafers on their way.
- I am so grateful to the folks in my life who listen to my commiserations. I do my best to thank them after I unload and I so appreciate their support and insights. I feel super lucky to have them in my life and willing to listen to me. MANY THANKS. (None of them read this, I think, but I want it out there in the universe.)
- I dusted off one of my short stories and sent it to a workmate to read. I hope she enjoys it and gives me honest, constructive feedback. When I looked to see when I wrote it, I laughed. 2014. My workmate was born in 2000, so she was 14 when I wrote the story. She wouldn’t have been able to read the story at that age. (It’s spicy.)
- My left foot is still being bothersome. It’s weird that when it’s in a shoe or boot, it’s not as painful. Maybe I need compression socks or something.
Yesterday marked our last time in San Leandro for the weekly chores. I sat with my mother for a bit, trying to get her to tell me what she might want from the grocery store, then R and I went to the grocery story to pick up enough food for her for the week. After I put away the groceries, I sat again with with my mother for a bit more.
Will I miss the house in San Leandro? No, not really. It hasn’t been my home for over thirty years. I’m grateful for my years growing up there but it feels frozen in time since Dad died. It doesn’t help that Mom hasn’t changed anything in the house since he’s been gone. The house is just shelter now, devoid of its spark. It feels tired and lonely and joyless.
In time, I’ll remember the good times in the house, of course. Lovely memories were made there and when the house is no longer in the family, we will remember those times.
The Niners game is on at this very moment. 43 seconds left in the game. “Season on the line.” The Eagles have the ball, just called a time out. It’s 4th and 11. We’ve had to listen to Tom Brady for this whole game. I’m rolling my eyes right now. Yes, I writing this in real time to keep my mind occupied as they figure out the play. Here we go. Brady is still yapping. They’re ready for the play… And the Niners are going forth!!!
WILD.
The stadium is a little quiet. Well, maybe not on the Niners sideline.
Whew!
Looks cold there. One more kneel down and this game is officially over. Sweet goodness! Oh gees, the Eagles just took their last timeout. It’s 3rd and 12 for the Niners. And the last kneel down is done! GAME OVER!
SF 23, Eagles 19
More randomness
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians – One of my favorites, Aleks Paunovic, was in the latest two episodes of the show. He was utterly unrecognizable! He played a Cyclops, the second time he’s played such a character in a Percy Jackson production. Neat! The show has been a lot of fun to watch. It’s so PG which means good for family viewing. 😉
- We’ve got a “tile walk” scheduled on January 20th. Neat!
- Should really really think about starting to pack.
- Sherlock – We’re doing a re-watch of the show. The early episodes are so familiar because we’ve watched them numerous times. When we get to the last couple of seasons, it’ll feel newer, perhaps. I think I’ve only watched the last season once. It’s fun seeing the old technology in it.
- Maybe in my next post I’ll have some news to share.
Every day you wake up, take that first breath. Open your eyes and remember your dreams. Hold the one that brings you joy, make it your goal. Let the sun warm your face. Let the rain mix with your tears. Sing at least one melody, one that quickens your heart. When the night falls and sleep beckons, fall back into your dreams. Close your eyes, remember your day and take that breath into slumber…
