Kevin Tod Smith

Sometimes I think there isn’t much more to say about Kev that I haven’t said before.  Sometimes I wonder if I should just be happy for the memories I treasure and just let go of whatever melancholy still lingers.  But I’m one who likes to remember.  I’m one who believes that perhaps remembering reminds the one departed that they were loved and are still loved.

I was lucky enough to meet Kevin Smith at a Hercules/Xena convention back in 1998.  He (and Erik Thomson) were the reason I plunged into the fandom.  I came out of it with good friends and great times.  Much of the good times can be attributed to the mutual adoration of Kevin that me and my friends felt.  He had this way about him.  When he walked into the room where we, his fan club members waited, everyone hushed for just a moment to acknowledge this man who walked in.  You wanted to act like a rational being but you just had to stop and look and breath in the excitement in the air.

It still makes me a little sad to remember that he’s gone from the world.  And when I look back on old articles or watch old videos online from his performances, I almost choke from the injustice of it all.  I try to comfort myself with the reminder of how lucky I am to have met this wonderful man.  And I consider myself very lucky indeed.
