The All Blacks win

Jordan Davis at the Pavilion (mostly)

Of course I’ll talk about other stuff here but first, Jordan Davis!

I took off work early just because and we got to the Concord Pavilion in plenty of time. We had premier parking, which was quite nice and close to the entrance. We were let in, clear bag searched, then had to wait to actually enter the venue. Bought drinks then tried to head to our seats. For some reason, they had us wait before we could go to the seats. Once we were a go, it was amusing to watch the lawn attendees run for a spot.

The show opened with Mackenzie Carpenter, who brought her winsome energy for a few songs. She sounded great and had a fantastic stage presence. She wasn’t on stage very long but she has left an impression. I’m listening to her album right now. (Yes to streaming music!)

Next up was Vincent Mason. He has a good voice and played a bit longer than Mackenzie. Will I eventually pickup a couple of his songs? Maybe.

Mitchell Tenpenny! It is ALWAYS a treat seeing Mitchell Tenpenny and goodness me, he has such a good voice. I love country music but the fellas aren’t always the best singers, you know? Well, Mitchell Tenpenny has a musical voice and he lets himself use it with emotion. I might be regretting not recording the whole of “Bitches” and “Drunk Me” but there’s always streaming, eh? He had a nice long set of almost an hour.

Jordan opened with the song that names the tour and is on his latest album. Something sounded different in his voice in the early part of his set and when he spoke after a few songs, his voice sounded scratchy. Maybe that’s what I was hearing? Further into the show, he sounded better so maybe it was just my ear.

His set was well over an hour and I of course took short clips so that I could note the playlist. I had used my Z Flip 7 for the openers but switched to my iPhone 16 Pro for Jordan. I did records a few songs completely (“Tucson Too Late,” “Singles You Up,” and “Mr. Brightside”). I’ll probably do a comparison later to see which phone fared better than the other but I wager the iPhone did better with the videos at least.

I love that Jordan played a good mix of old and new and the in-between songs. I’m always partial to “Take It From Me” since it was part of the set he played in San Jose back in ’17 at Original Joe’s. “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot” was one of the songs I had in the early days before it was officially released. Loved those days of sharing new music among friends.

Jordan’s show was a great way to end the week. Good music and positive vibes is such a balm to the soul. It’s wonderful seeing how far Jordan has come and I LOVE that his headlining tour had a stop so close to home. I have been to so many shows at the Pavilion and in my short tenure as registrar of Ygnacio Valley High School, I was part of the planning for graduation and got to stand on the stage before graduation. I remember standing there thinking, “Wow, Duran Duran stood here. So did Harry Connick Jr!” It’s still a lovely venue and I wish more acts I want to see would play there.

TV/MOVIES

The Thursday Murder Club – Delightful! I really enjoyed this movie. I hope they do more. It was a good mystery movie and I’d love to see the characters in another film. Coopers Chase looks like a cool place to live. I wouldn’t mind retiring in such a place. 🙂 I’d definitely recommend this watch. Now I need to finish the book!

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – I have really liked this season of SNW. There were wonderfully light moments to balance out the darker bits. It was a very entertaining season. The last episode of the season had an “Inner Light” (TNG) vibe towards the end, which offered a bittersweet “ending” to the characters. The show is doing a lovely job of giving the characters we know from TOS more depth and I am so loving this show.

Wednesday – We finished the season this week. They definitely left threads for the next season. It was nice getting to know the other members of the Addams family. I did find Pugsley annoying in the beginning but he was less so by the end of the season.

Task – We have Sunday show again! I liked the first episode enough to want to watch more. So far, well done! Now for the second episode…

Regarding Jordan and his not usual sound on Friday night…

Jordan

It wasn’t me imagining things! On Saturday (day after the Pavilion show), Jordan canceled his set at Country in the Park 2 in Sacramento because he couldn’t sing. Oh no! 🙁 He explained in his announcement (day of, not long before he was set to be on stage) that he hadn’t been feeling well and he had powered through the previous couple of shows but he couldn’t not physically sing on Saturday. I feel so bad for him! His words were so full of regret at disappointing everyone and frustration at his inability to perform. I feel so bad for the fans who were there! They were certainly not told before the show started, which I’m sure led to some unfortunate reactions. Hopefully more people than not were understanding along with their disappointment. Wishing Jordan a speedy recovery!

Random stuff in bullet form…

  • The new iPhone was announced and is it wrong that I kinda wouldn’t mind getting the iPhone 17 Pro? Yes, I know it’s wrong considering I upgraded a mere year ago. Still, I’m intrigued by the new look, even if it is a bit industrial and not “pretty” per se.
  • I wouldn’t mind upgrading my AirPods Pro 2 to the 3. Sounds like they made some neat-oh updates to the new pair. My current AirPods Pro are still going strong so I don’t really need to upgrade. I just want to upgrade.
  • Thank goodness Kaiser will be administering the COVID-19 shot starting Monday the 15th. I’ll probably wait until fall break before getting it and the flu shot. I’m definitely getting it.
  • I read two Harlequin romance novels this weekend because thank goodness for Libby and my library card! It’s such a nice break with some brain candy. Oddly enough, both stories involved unknown babies. I’ve written the baby trope a couple of times. They can be fun. 😉
